10,000 km to 15000km of riding is the estimation of the lifespan of carbon rim brake tracks, it is the maximum traveling, but if you ride harsh through wet terrains, then your rim tracks would start ruining after 1000km of riding.

How To Increase Lifespan Of Carbon And Aluminum Brake Pads?

  • Brake pads need regular cleaning because dirt and small shards of metals will decrease the working capacity of brake pads.
  • Avoid riding on deep muddy terrains so that the rims would not dip within the sand, after returning from every ride wash the brake tracks with water, and after washing wipe the rims with a dry cloth.
  • Store your bike in dry places at night time.
  • Carbon rims have poor braking in wet and rainy trails as compared to aluminum metals.
  • After every ride check the position of both pads of brakes, and maintain their level so that both should stay parallel to each other on the left and right sides of the rim.
  • If you are a beginner rider then avoid too much braking on downhill and uphill terrains, sudden pulling the levers of the brakes on smooth terrains would also decrease the lifespan of brake pads.
  • If you are a mountain biker or BMX rider, then too much braking on cornering and twisting trails would also affect brake pads badly.
  • If you have installed brake pads in the wrong pattern then, these would not touch fully with the rim tracks and the edges of the pads start rubbing, and the other area would remain at a distance from the rim, it will also affect brake pads and ruin half pads.
  • If you have installed new and expensive wheelsets, and the brake pads are poor, then it will also ruin and decreases the lifespan of new wheelsets.

Negative Effects Of Old Brake Pads:

When pads become old, dirt and mud and small pieces of debris would be stuck within the pads and when you pull the levers of the brakes, this dirt would rub constantly with bike rim brake tracks and after a few months, the rims will ruin and destroy, old brake pads need to be replaced as soon as possible with the new brake pads.
